The April 2021 Android security update for the Galaxy A51 has reached the United States and is presently rolling out to select variants of the device across the country. More specifically, it’s the model SM-A515U that’s now being updated to a newer, safer Android build. That would be the CDMA version sold by Sprint, though its siblings hopefully aren’t too far behind. Well, they shouldn’t be, but the U.S. carriers’ track record with this particular smartphone isn’t too great; ditto for many others in its decisively budget price range.

Be that as it may, the over-the-air package you should be on the lookout for is designated as the release version A515USQU5CUD2. As per usual, you might be able to trigger the installation a bit earlier than usual if you go to Settings Software update Download and install.

Will U.S. carriers ever get better at software support?

I’s fortunate that our firmware archive is a more reliable tool for keeping your Samsung device secure than the U.S. wireless industry. So, if you’re feeling particularly impatient and own a compatible Galaxy A51, you can proceed to our datastore and download the full system images containing the latest security update. Assuming you know what you’re doing and are aware of the risks, of course.

This development comes just as we’re getting ready for the May 2021 OTA to hit, which is practically guaranteed to happen later this week. As for this update, Samsung already detailed the April 2021 patch in all its seriousness and there’s not much more to it. A software update of any kind is newsworthy enough for Galaxy A51 owners in the U.S., but hopefully they start seeing these upgrades a bit more regularly moving forward. You know, like the rest of us are.
