Three-year-old Galaxy J8 gets the April 2021 security update

After rolling out the April 2021 security update to most of its newer smartphones last month, the company has started releasing the security patch to its three-year-old and four-year-old devices. The Galaxy J8, a mid-range smartphone from mid-2018, has started getting a new software update that includes the April 2021 security patch.

Samsung has released the April 2021 security patch to the Galaxy J8 (SM-J810F and SM-J810Y) in a few Asian countries, including Caucasus countries, Kazakhstan, Russia, Thailand, and Ukraine. The new update, which has been released in Thailand, has firmware version J810FJXS5CUD1. The new software, which Samsung has released in Caucasus countries, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Ukraine, has firmware version J810FJXS5CUD1.

Going by Samsung’s own documentation, the April 2021 security patch includes 21 fixes from Samsung and 30 fixes from Google. Recently, several critical vulnerabilities were found in smartphones using Qualcomm chips. The Galaxy J8, which uses a Snapdragon 450 processor, has received fixes for those vulnerabilities via the April 2021 security patch.

If you are a Galaxy J8 user from any of the countries mentioned in this article, you might have received the update already. If not, you can check for it by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. If you are an advanced user, you can also download the entire firmware image from our firmware database and flash it manually. The Galaxy J8 was launched with Android 8.0, but it was updated to Android 10 last year.
